Short pulse lasers with pulse lengths in the femto-second range open new perspectives in the fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy as well as in the material processing and medical technology. The short pulse lasers t-pulse and s-pulse of the manufacturer Amplitude Systemes are easy to use, reliable and affordable systems for a broad range of applications. The lasers are based on diode-pumped Ytterbium-doped solid state lasers. The wavelength of the lasers is 1030 nm. The pulse energies are between 20 nJ and 100µJ having pulse lengths between 200 fs and 400 fs. In the fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy the short pulse lasers enable efficient 2-photon excitation of fluorophores, which would have to be excited with green light in a single-photon transition otherwise. The advantages are a very small background noise, a high penetration depth, a small damage of living cells and a very good localization of the fluorescence. In the material processing the extremely short pulses lead to high quality results in marking and engraving of materials.
