DESCRIPTION The hermetic feedthrough allows connection of two fibers through a pannel. The feedthrough is similar to the coupling part between two male fiber optic connectors in which hermeticity with the pannel is obtained by gaskets and hermeticity along the optical path is obtained by a short length of fiber glued into the feedthrough. This fiber is chosen to match the fibers to be connected. FC standard is for singlemode or multimode fibers 140µm max. SMA standard is to connect large core fiber (200µm to 1000µm) Configurations without conectors and no discontinuity of the fiber are also available. More difficult to install such configurations are interesting when attenuation has to be reduced to a minimum.
APPLICATIONS Fiber to fiber links between two volumes where hermeticity is to be preserved (vacuum, pressure, contaminated rooms, etc.)
